He was born in a family of pianoforte critics and studied under the famous pianoforte master Jiang Yunxian. He is a member of the 11th, 12th and 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a member of the Central Committee of the China Association for the Promotion of Democracy, a member of the Bureau of the China Federation of Literary and Artistic Associations, a vice-chairman of the China Association of Chinese Opera Artists, a chairman of the Jiangsu Association of Chinese Opera Artists, an honorary director of the Suzhou City Bomb Guild, and the vice-president of the Suzhou Bomb Guild. He enjoys the special allowance of the State Council. He has been awarded the Peony Performance Award of Chinese Opera, the Zijin Cultural Medal of Jiangsu Province, the Suzhou Outstanding Talent Award, the National Virtuous Young and Middle-aged Literary Workers, the "Four Groups" of Talents Cultivation Objects of the Central Propaganda Department, the Model Worker of Jiangsu Province, and the Gusu Famous Cultural Artist.
