Born in Changchun, Jilin in 1962, he graduated from the Printmaking Department of the Jilin Arts Institute in 1984. His works have been featured in many important exhibitions both at home and abroad, including the "Them" series at the 49th Venice Biennale in 2001, the "Journey of the Heart and Heaven and Earth" series at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2007, and the "North" series at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., in 2010. "North" series at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2007, and "Perspective: Sea Waves," a solo exhibition at the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., in 2010. His work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., the Getty Center, Los Angeles, the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., the Queensland Art Museum, the National Art Museum of China, and the Guangdong Museum of Art.
