He graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Jilin Normal University in 1996, and from the Experimental Art Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2010. He is currently a professor and master's tutor at Jilin Normal University, a member of the Experimental Art Committee of the China Artists Association, and the head of the Institute of Chinese Paper Art at Jilin Normal University. Recent exhibitions include: Northern Alps Earth Art Festival (2020-2021); Curitiba Biennial (2019); "Made in China - Li Hongbo's Solo Project" at Yinchuan Museum of Contemporary Art (2018); Solo exhibition at 81 Art Museum "Sea of Flowers" (2017); "Standard" (2017), Museum of Paper, Angoulême, France.
