It's not a pipe.

René Magritte

This is Not a Pipe skillfully highlights the gap between language and meaning. René Magritte combines words and images in such a way that forces us to question the importance of language and words. The "pipe" is not a real pipe because a picture of a pipe cannot be smoked. Magritte probably borrowed the theme of the pipe from Le Corbusier's book Toward an Architecture, as he was an admirer of the architect and painter.
