Anna & Patrick Pwach's work has always been centered on the themes of memory, archaeology, ruins, souvenirs of death, disintegration, loss, and remembrance. As they put it, "We believe that ignorance or the destruction of cultural memory brings about all kinds of forgetfulness, falsehoods and excesses, and that we must use all feasible means to resist this pervasive forgetfulness and destruction."
2235 A.D." shows that after the disaster, only the ruins of houses and walls are left in the city, and as far as the eye can see, there is only a desolate and decadent scene. However, the spiral staircase gives us hope that there is still life and future in the ruins, and it also symbolizes that human beings need to have a tenacious spirit of never giving up in the face of adversity.
